In an effort to warm-up the holiday season, volunteers handed out hot soup, drinks, clothing, and blankets to those in need, including the city’s homeless. These supplies were gathered through the generous donations from businesses, church groups, non-profit organizations, and local citizens seeking to help those less fortunate.
In addition, local musicians including singers and choral groups provided live music during the event.
In 2011, a small group of individuals started Cups of Compassion with only a pot of soup and a determination to help those in need. Since then, the event has grown each year to include approximately 100 volunteers who serve over 1,000 individuals. The community has since recognized Cups of Compassion as one of the most peaceful and uplifting events in downtown Reading in the last 25 years.
